Our Master Plan

Due to popular demand, I'll share our Get A Baby Plan 3.0.  You know, 1.0 was just get pregnant like everyone else.  2.0 was do a little Clomid. 2.5 was see the fertility gurus for a lot of Clomid. So, without further ado,
Get A Baby Plan 3.0!

We're stopping everything for six months.  I know, a crazy way to get pregnant, you might think. We know that it's either going to take IUI or adoption for us to have children, so we individually took a week or so to think through our options, do some research, talk to the doctor, etc.  Brian said he continually came back to the feeling that we need six months off and then we'll be successful at something.  Since he kept coming back to this same conclusion, we decided to listen.  If God points you in a certain direction, the best plan is to listen to Him.  So, six months off.  No Clomid, only loosely monitoring anything, and just enjoying our Summer and Fall.  If I get pregnant, it's God's Will and rock on with it.  This gives us a chance to heal emotionally, rest me physically, and maybe even drop some of this big ol' butt.  Hopefully.  Gaining 25 pounds on Clomid sucked, in case I haven't mentioned it.

After six months, we'll try six rounds of IUI.  Ideally, of course, we'll try far fewer and be successful.  If after six trys I'm not pregnant, then we're going straight to adoption.  We know that we want to adopt at some point.  Whether that's for all our children or for children in addition to a biological child remains to be seen.  First we'll try the IUI so we can have exhausted our options and can move on with no question.

Don't think we'll be spending six months lounging on the beach and drinking mai tais, though. Nope.  Remember my post about preparing for rain?  That's what we'll be doing.  We've been so intent on asking the Lord to give us a child, but not so intent on preparing for that child. Sure, I've done a lot of reading and planning about home birth, cloth diapering, homemade baby foods, chemical-free living, homeschooling, and raising children to serve the Lord, but that's not preparing for the flesh and blood little person that we're asking for, is it?  Our eventual nursery currently houses a twin bed, full-length mirror, spare Pack n Plays for the daycare, all our yard sale accumulations, our china, a drying rack for clothes, and the second litter box.  That's not counting the closet!  Not exactly a nursery.  So, over the next six months, we'll be rearranging a few things in other rooms to accommodate the furniture and "stuff", and I'll purge most of it out of our house.  We'll return the bed to Mama and Daddy, since it's theirs, and start planning for baby furniture.  We've been buying things here and there that we know we want our kids to have, so that stuff will go into the room.  We're not painting or hanging window treatments, but we're getting ready. You know, preparing for rain.  In addition, I'll be low-carbing it, since that is a good way for women with PCOS to drop weight which leads to higher pregnancy rates.  It's worked for me before, and as important as grains are for a healthy lifestyle, it's only a temporary thing for me to do.  Bring on the steak!

The most important things we'll be doing will be gathering information for adoption, and saving money.  We'll be choosing an agency, and maybe doing agency interviews.  We'll be getting our home ready for a home study, too.  Since we'll be saving $135 each month by not going to the gurus, we'll put that aside to save.  And start cutting back dramatically in every area so as to start making a dent in the expense of IUI and/or adoption.  This six months is for preparing and planning, and that includes financial preparations.  So we won't be going many places, doing many things, or eating out much at all.  We're going frugal, ya'll.  After six months we should be able to afford six months of IUI and be better prepared financially for adoption.

So, that's it.  I know, it's pretty simple and logical.  We have a great peace with the plan and believe that we're following God's will.  At this rate, we're looking at Baby 2010! Thoughts and prayers, and even advice are greatly appreciated. Have a great day!

Thoughts on links:  if you're here because you're dealing with infertility, some of those links might be helpful to you.  I link to things to better explain myself, not because it's the end all and be all of the information I've found.  Like the china link....it's our pattern, but not our registry. If you see a link about something you're interested in, follow it and be informed.  If you need an explanation or a link and I didn't make one, please feel free to comment or e-mail me for further information.  A handful of folks comment on my blog, and I appreciate each one.  But I see a lot of other people are here via Google Analytics, and I see the keywords that lead you here.  So know that I love you, Dear Lurker! Those links are for you!  Later, taters.

October 7, 2008: Our Second Anniversary

Um, where have two years gone?! Somehow, Brian and I have been married two full years now, and it feels like our wedding was last week. Does anyone have an explaination about this? We talked about it last night, and he feels the same, thankfully. It's hard to believe that in two years, we've both changed jobs, we bought a house, started trying to start a family, and watched two of our siblings get married (which makes us very, very old). And that's just the huge things; it's been a busy two years!
Tonight we both get off work early, so we'll be enjoying dinner out somewhere (any suggestions?). Saturday we have weather-permitting plans to go to Skyline Drive for our newly-annual picnic-for-our-anniversary. Last year was a wonderful time, and I hope we can repeat it. So, for my readers: how long have you been married, and what's the best part?

Meanwhile, I visited Dr. Williams again for bloodwork results. Yep, it's PCOS. Good deal. Better the devil I know then the devil(S!) I don't. He gave me this month's Clomid (doubled the dose; I see a trend!) and asked me to exercise four times a week, minimum. So my fat butt walked 3/4 mile last night (fast!). It was very nice to get back out and get moving, I have to say. I had the shocking realization that even though I used to go for a 30 minute walk nearly daily, that was...Four. Years. Ago. Holy cats; forget two years - where have the last four gone?!?!

Other than all that, we had a trip to West Virginia and a few thousand family gatherings in the past few weeks. I didn't take a single picture, so you'll have to take my word on it that it was fun! In addition, I have lots of great new things going on in the ol' shops, so check em out. Here are linkies:

Okay, off to accomplish something! Have a great day!

Finally posting!!

Originally posted to Livejournal on September 19, 2007.

Well, holy Hannah, it’s been a long time since I posted! I think most anyone who reads this or eventually will also reads the random utterances I post on MySpace, too, so no big deal. Brief recap of the summer:

May: packed and planned. Hubby switched jobs. End of IEPs for Andrea.

June: packed and planned. Renters refused to move. Lost loan. Switched moving days to appease arrogant renters. Got new loan. Moved. Started unpacking. Opened a daycare. Realized I have a lot more house to clean, and still haven’t unpacked.

July: Rethinking this whole daycare thing….this is harder than it looks! But I love it.

August: switched kiddos around, now have 3 babies and no toddlers. Eek! Still unpacking, and wondering why we have so much crap.

September: turned frigging 30. Holy crow. Official start of college football season; Go Mountaineers!!! Traveling every other weekend for home games with hubby in various shades of navy and ‘old gold’, whatever that is. Visiting with in-laws and being totally freaked out by the fact that my brother is planning to ask his girlfriend to marry him. Sadly, still unpacking, too….

That brings us up to date. You’ll notice there’s still no mention of a baby in the works. A bun in the oven. One on the way. Nope. We don’t have clearance from Slush yet. I was in for a visit back in like May or so (I posted) and she gave me until December to get my fat butt back in gear before she sends me to the dreaded endo. I pointed out to her that it’s impossible to stay on a strict diet while driving 9 hours a day for work and living in a 1 story small house. But, moving to a 3 story house and staying home where I can eat at regular times is bound to be good for me. She said she’d give me a chance. Then, just to show that if you give me enough rope I’ll hang myself, I gained 10 pounds in the moving experience. No kidding. I’m seriously 10 pounds heavier than when she was giving up on me. Huh?

So, I turned 30. Funny thing being that when I typed “30”, I mistyped and ended up with 320. Feels like it some days! But, I decided that one’s 30th birthday, coinciding nicely with a Monday (two days later, but whatever) and a new season is an auspicious time to start a new lifestyle. No, I’m not leaving hubby for a girl. Slightly less new lifestyle! We sat down and figured out when we want to start TTC. And, no kidding, we planned this around football season. See, I refuse to climb the God-forsaken hill to Mountaineer Field while gravid with baby. Or babies, as genetics might have it (twins or naught…screwed up family). So we cannot conceive between January (or December for practical purposes) and March. This avoids the dreaded occurrence of a child’s nativity being on a game day, or even future birthday parties forcing Daddy to decide between the Louisville game and little Bruce or Rachel’s fifth birthday. And, as my own daddy would point out, that lets Pappy enjoy his hunting season without fear of said festivities as well. So, we’re gonna try to get preggo around April 2008. Since I was figuring this out during lessons on September 6th (I multitask well. Shut up.), I used that Tuesday as a starting date. 30 weeks from then puts us firmly in the first week of April. 2 pounds per week (an achievable goal, as they put it) that’s 60 pounds. Enough to make Slush sit up and take notice. Enough to kick start my body into submission. Enough to allow me to haul my pregnant can up 4 flights of stairs to the showers without a heart attack!! Though if one more person tells me that he/she knew someone who lost 30 pounds and BAM got preggo, I’ll kill them. Fat people can have babies, too. My daddy’s family has been doing it for years. So have TONS of trailer park residents. So have many tribal ladies the world over who do not look like our supermodels.

I actually hope that my daddy’s family’s fat, happy, breed-like-rabbits genetics can contradict my mom’s PCOS, no-baby-having genes. It is actually a huge hope for me. I came across this hope at our recent family reunion of breeders. Tons of ‘em, spread all over the park. I hope the fertility genes in that family are just as strong as the thick, flat nose, wide, flat butt, and dark, sexy eyes (hey, it’s not all bad!) that we all have. Or the fact that my dad’s family looks just like the entire population of Cherokee, NC. We’s gots them strong genes, ya’ll.

So, 60 pounds in 30 weeks. I’ve been at it for 13 days now, and I’ve dropped 8 pounds as of this morning. Go me. 1500 calorie ADA diet. And lugging a 28 pound baby up four frigging flights of stairs for cardio!

To think I originally planned on putting up a post about cloth diapers. Mostly for my own reference later, should all go well. I’ll get to it tomorrow. We discovered today that we will be saving literal TONS of money. Nice change!!!

I’m going to go snuggle my husband and play Viva Pinata. Stupid game.
